The Noah’s Ark 5 oz silver coin is issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia. This investment coin, made from the purest silver (999/1000), is considered legal tender in Armenia. Like the Vienna Philharmonic, it consistently features the same motif. The obverse of the coin displays the Armenian coat of arms along with the inscription “REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA.” Beneath this is the face value of 1000 dram, as dram is Armenia’s official currency. The coin also bears the fine weight information “5 Oz Ag 999” and the year of issue, which is discreetly placed below the face value.
The reverse of the coin presents a detailed depiction of the iconic ark, with Mount Ararat in the background, symbolizing Armenia as the final resting place of Noah’s journey. In the foreground, there is a depiction of the dove with an olive branch in its beak, symbolizing the end of the flood as told in the Bible. The coin’s English name, along with its Armenian translation, is also featured on the reverse of this beautifully crafted silver coin.
The Noah’s Ark coin series has been issued by the Central Bank of Armenia since 2011, with the 5 oz silver coin introduced a year later, in 2012.
Each 5 oz coin is delivered in a sturdy plastic capsule. For a small premium, you can also obtain a certificate, endorsed by the Armenian Central Bank and the owner of Geiger Edelmetalle, which guarantees the authenticity and fineness of the Noah’s Ark silver coin.
